Can you train a Bluetick/Blue heeler mix to hunt and tree a racoon?
I have 2 blue tick/Blue heeler mix puppies and was wondering if they can be taught to hunt and tree a racoon?
can a blue tick mixed with a blue heeler be trained to hunt racoons cause i want to train the two puppies i have so is it possible they could be trained for the job?
Well, I suppose if they took after the Bluetick side of the family you could, but if their instincts are to herd, then I'm not sure. Why on earth would anyone take a hunting dog and cross it with a herding dog, anyway, or was it an "oops"?
Crossbreeds are usually excellent family pets, but lack enough of the traits of either breed to be useful in the work that the purebred was meant for. I doubt that your dogs will be the best coon hunters going, OR the best herding dogs...but you never know. Try them, and see if they can hold their own.
