Which is better? Knives?
Ok first I have no idea what Im looking at. I am trying to get a device similar to the old sharpening wheels used in medieval times. I have gotten as far as pedestal grinding wheels and was faced with this problem. there are two materials that the wheels are made out of and I don't know which one to buy. So any information you have on these would be highly appreciated. the two materials are, Silicon Carbide, and Aluminum oxide. Which is better and for what uses? can I sharpen a knife with it?
Personally (unless your doing a project or something) I would get out of that. In medieval times they didn't have the tools you can use today, i use Japanese water stones (whet stones) to sharpen anything
then i use a strop to finish it off.
