Why is nuclear fusion a limitless power source?
When the atoms are fused and energy is released, are the newly fused atoms simply split and re-used, how is it limitless?
Nuclear fusion is not literally limitless; rather, it is considered limitless because of the immense number of possibilities we can do with it. Nuclear fusion releases a lot of energy, and fuel for nuclear fusion is incredibly abundant, so it can be roughly considered limitless.
But according to the third law of thermodynamics, everything in the universe must achieve a higher state of disorder over time. So there will be a time where disorder is incredibly high and reached the peak. But although there is such a limit, it is really far away, and our imagination cannot comprehend it so we consider it limitless. The disorder released by nuclear fusion adds up to this amount, called entropy, and when it reaches the limit, nuclear fusion is impossible.
